Barneys New York

Art direction and design of a special edition book on the history of Barneys New York. My business partner Kevin Brainard and I were hired by Sagmeister & Walsh to design the book. We worked closely with Barneys Creative Director Dennis Friedman and his team. We commissioned photography and illustrations from Stephanie Gonot, Sarah Illenberger, Brian Kelley, Na Kim, Eugenia Loli, Elise Mesner, and Trey Wright. 

Brian Kelley created brilliant constructions to illustrate recipes from Freds, the famous Barneys eatery.

The typeface Eksell, by Letters from Sweden, plays a starring role in the design. The book will be featured in The Type Directors Club upcoming annual. 

Stephanie Gonot’s take on linguine and clam sauce and potato latkes.

Subversive illustrations by the always brilliant Na Kim.

Trey Wright transformed a bunch of snapshots of celebs at parties into art.

Roasted halibut and a reconstucted salad, as interpreted by Elise Mesner.
